The history of Trevor Newly is an unwritten incognita even to him. His earliest memory dates of 2002, when he woke up in a Sierra Leone hospital, critically injured from what was assumed to be combat wounds. According to hospital staff, he was in a coma for three months, recovering from his injuries before he came around.
Though it was assumed that he was a soldier with one of the foreign companies fighting the war, there was no registry or claim on him from any. Whoever the soldier who woke up in the burnt unit of a remote African hospital was, his identity was erased along with Trevor's memories of his prior life.
As the months went by, the soldier would become known as Trevor Newly. His injuries were extensive and riddled his body with scar tissue. With English as his native language, a British accent was his only clue to his past. Recovery took years and relentless effort on his part and the group of professionals who saw him through it.
One of those caregivers was a British nurse by the name of Marian. As the tale goes, Trevor slowly, but steadily, fell in love with her. Rehabilitation ran the course of the next three years. Once he was released permanently, Trevor asked Marian to marry him. She accepted his proposal and they moved back to England to start a new life together.
There, he acquired British citizenship and started to work as a firefighter. Well established and mostly healed from the war, by 2008 Marian had fallen pregnant with their first child. The next eight months were spent getting the nursery set up, reading parental advice books and preparing for new life to be breathed into their marriage.
When tragedy struck, it took Trevor by surprise. Marian had just left one of her last shifts before she took license for the baby's arrival, when a drunk driver rammed into the side of her vehicle. Being on shift, Trevor's squad was called to the site. Despite his training and experience, there was little to be done. Both Marian and the baby died before reaching the hospital.
Desolated, Trevor overhauled his life to the United States, choosing the city of New York for his new start. The legalities of it took years to get settled, but by 2015 he was working full time for New York's Fire Department as a fire lieutenant.
In 2013, he opened a bar called "The Warriors Tavern", which is most often frequented by New York's fire and police forces. He co-owns the place with two of his best friends, who also work with him at the firehouse.
